How to Choose Between All Those Used 4x4s for Sale

If you are currently browsing the used 4x4s for sale, you might be surprised at the variety available on the market. There are so many options to choose from and you will have to be careful when making your choice. It may seem like a straightforward thing to purchase a 4x4 but, because there are so many of them for sale from dealerships and private individuals alike, you will need to do some homework before investing your money in a vehicle. Here is what to take into account before deciding on which used vehicle to choose:

·        Consider your lifestyle: Are you a farmer that must negotiate difficult terrain on a daily basis? Are you planning a cross-country safari for which you need a hardy, go-anywhere vehicle? Are you likely to tow a trailer or caravan? Perhaps you are a tour enthusiast that goes on the occasional four-wheel-drive adventure or you perhaps just like the appeal of a large vehicle that you can drive anywhere. Your needs will determine the used 4x4s you will consider.

·        Budget is key: Remember that, from all the used 4x4s now for sale, you have to choose the one that fits comfortably into your budget. Keep in mind that you will also have to pay for insurance, fuel, and maintenance. All these things need to be incorporated into how much money you have available to spend. Most 4x4s require specialised tyres and these can vary in cost, so take this into account as well.

·        Diesel or petrol: Petrol vehicles use more fuel than diesels but are cheaper to maintain. The availability and prices of parts and services will influence your decision. A lot of people prefer diesel vehicles over the petrol models for sale but there is a case to be made for both.

·        Newer vs. older: Some of the older vehicles may be easier to service because they are less complicated. If you are planning to traverse Africa, you may find that an older 4x4 will better suit your needs because you are more likely to find parts for it in other countries. If you only want to use it locally and are unlikely to go far off into the continent, you might want to opt for a more modern, safer, and more comfortable 4x4.

·        Resale value: As with everything else, a vehicle that retains its value is always a win. When looking for used vehicles for sale, the resale value bears consideration. Remember that a bakkie from a brand that has poor resale value is not necessarily off-limits because, even though it loses its value faster, it is therefore also cheaper to buy and may be a good deal, especially if you are planning to drive it for a long time.
